Mid 90's Gaming Challenge PlayStation 1 Vs Nintendo 64

Retro Gaming Consoles

It’s been a couple years since the release of the PS4 and Xbox One (a year after the Switch release) brought us fully into the eighth generation of console gaming. This 8th console war has settled into a battle for exclusives, price differences, and online and social gaming advantages, which is fine—anyone looking to buy a system this year will have more games and better prices (and fewer bugs) than last year’s early adopters.

Role Playing Games, Seems the Nintendo 64 Library Missed Them

Nintendo 64, Super Nintendo Consoles

The Nintendo 64 is a video game console that is seen as a lot of things. With the benefit of hindsight, it is easy to look back and see the console as the moment where Nintendo started to lose its grip on the video game industry that it once dominated.

Why I bought a Playstation 4 & Not an Xbox

Playstation 4

The Xbox One and PlayStation 4 have been out for a year now and I’m ready to jump in. I’ve been the happy owner of a Wii U since spring (even happier this month with the release of the first Mario Kart 8 DLC for a terrific price), but since the last generation, I’m of the opinion that I need a Nintendo console and one of the other two to really keep up with console gaming.

Super Smash Bros Wii U Review - The Old School Game Vault

Super Smash Bros Wii U

Intro:

If you played Smash Bros. on the Wii U, your first thoughts after you look at this edition might be – “Well, this looks like a replica of the 3DS game.” After all, it has the exact same roster and the same plot.

PS4 MineCraft Edition Review - The Old School Game Vault

MineCraft

The Intro:

Minecraft is a testament to the capability of a sandbox environment. If you haven’t heard of Minecraft yet, you might look at the blocky graphics and dismiss it without a thought, but by doing so, you would be ridding yourself of a chance to explore the unimaginable depth that lies buried beneath the surface.

Shh! The Message Behind Gaming as a Male or Female Character

Mass Effect Trilogy

A lot of role-playing games (RPGs) new and old let you pick the sex of your character (male or female) before you start. Which is awesome. I’ve played Mass Effect with both Maleshep and Femshep characters and got two games’ worth of quality voice acting for the price of one.

Borderlands STORY Is Good Enough and That’s All It Has to Be

GamePlay with Borderlands

Spoiler note: This post contains plot spoilers about Borderlands and Borderlands 2 and, by default, spoilers about the characters in the upcoming Pre-Sequel who also appear in Borderlands 2. Spoiling Borderlands 1 for you might actually be doing you a favor, though. That ending’s terrible.

shin megami tensei Persona Games            One of the most pleasant surprises of the end of the PS2’s life cycle were Atlus’s Persona 3 (2007) and Persona 4 (2008), both released in North America long after the next generation of consoles had come out.

So what is it about the Borderlands, That's So Hard To Put Down?

I like RPGs. So yeah, I like Borderlands . But the Borderlands hybrid RPG-shooter formula (recently co-opted by Bungie’s Destiny , and taken in a very different direction by the Mass Effect series) is more than the sum of its parts. So what is it about the Borderlands combination of the shooter and RPG genres that makes the games so hard to put down? The main addicting force of Borderlands is its progression systems. Borderlands had ‘em, Borderlands 2 greatly expanded on them (as on practically every other element of the formula). In B2 , for instance, you have the leveling system. Then you have the skill points system built on top of that (with the constant ability to respec your skill trees back at your base in Sanctuary). Then you have the kajillion different challenges, in-game achievements based on using weapons, powers, and effects in certain ways, killing various enemies,...

Has Mainstream Gaming Gotten Less Patient?
